I have a DVD burner that has been working fine playing dvd's and burning. Recently I have not been able to burn DVD's. When I insert a blank DVD not matter what kind it tells me to insert and empty DVD. I have no clue why this is happening. The same thing happens in Nero as well as Alcohol 120%. I tried a system restore to last week but that didn't work. It plays DVD's fine it just won't see blank ones. I have also tried removing driver and reinstalling as well as using caned air to try and clean drive. Any help on this would be most appreciated.

Remove all burning software (Nero, Alcohol, etc). After rebooting, insert a blank DVD and see if the capacity shows correctly under the drive's properties (should say something like 4.3GB). Do this before you reinstall anything.

If that doesn't get you anywhere, try the drive in another PC if possible. A dirty lens can cause this, but if you do decide to clean the drive, blow it out with a can of compressed air instead of using a laser lens disc cleaner which can cause damage.
