Hey all,

I am having a problem with my NEC 2500 drive. It will burn a CDR just fine, but we recently started getting errors when burning DVD's (Could not perform start of Disc-at-once
). I have messed with some settings to no avail. Also, I updated the firmware to 1.09 from 1.07 and also update Nero to the latest that I could. I will post my error log below (I have tried multiple discs as well):

I'll start with the simple first - have you tried different types of media? Is there any sort of media test for this drive - through Nero there are a few speed tests etc - that can sometimes shed some light on issues. Lastly, checking the obvious, the "type" of disc you are trying to create is indeed the one you are selecting from Nero? Don't mean to appear condescending - but I find myself trying to do this very thing from time to time, and sometimes need to remind myself to start withthe basics.

I noticed the following in your log:

Code:
1) Check supported media : Disabled (0)

You need to go to File -> Preferences in Nero and make sure the following option is enabled:
[tab]"Check for correct disc format before burning"

Code:
2) Insert the disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: Unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD R/RW.)

...

This is the most important part. The DVD media you're using isn't getting recognized properly. You need to make sure you're using a compatible type of DVD disc (+ or -) and that the brand is compatible. From NEC's support site, it looks like the ND-2510A model can write to both + and -, so I'm assuming the ND-2500A model you have can too. I see you have already tried different brands of DVD blanks and also installed the latest firmware update. However, it would be good to know if you did the firmware update before you had problems or after.

Here's the site:

You may have to go through another reinstall of Nero using the CleanTool this time around:

Good Luck! Hope something works...

It ended up being a type of DVD media not supported by the drive. All that work to find that out :) Oh well, that's the learning process.

Thanks again.
