Hi, Got a Philips JR4DVDRW usb connected external drive which has been working for a long time without any problems
Suddenly it no longer shows in My Computer or Devices (usb port works with my memory stick so that side must be OK) - Anyone experienced this & know of a fix please?

I would try all the USB ports, change cables, then try a poof or two of canned air before declaring the drive dead. Optical drives can die with no warning, they have lots of moving parts and are prone to sudden unexplained death.

Be grateful for the "long time" you used the drive, and don't waste $10 on a "cleaning" disc when you can buy an external drive case and 5.5" DVD/RW drive for ~$40.
