I am running a report from GoldMine 'Cal' and every entry is reported on twice, thereby doubling the sales total! Any idea on why it is doing this, and how to stop it?

Hi - thanks for the response! Contact1 linked to OpMgr by Account no, and Opmgr linked to Cal by OpId/Lopredid. Hope this helps.

This happens when there are two matching records in another table.
What fields are you using from each table?
Which table does the sales total come from?

Hi Ken

Contact1 - company

Cal - userid, status, actcode, duration, ref, rectype, number1, enddate, notes

4 columns of totals for varying revenue types, formula = if {Cal.REF} startswith "P" or {Cal.REF}= "Product" then {Cal.NUMBER1} else 0 or can be starts with other criterion

Totals is 'sum of number1'

Could this be happening because I have OpMger table in there, but don't use any fields from it? I only put it there because I was told to!!!! If I take it out, what link should I use between Cal and Contact1??

thanks

What fields are available in the Op manager?

There may be 2 records in the OpManager and if you get rid of one you eliminate the duplication. The trick is finding a rule that selects just one of the OpMgr records Ken Hamady

Is it possible that each OpMgr can have multiple
Contact1 records as well as multiple CAL records?
This would cause each Contact1 record to link to
all CAL records for that OpMgr.

If that's the problem, you need to revisit the logic of your joins.

Cheers,
- Ido

Thanks Ken and Ido

I think I'm getting out of my depth here. I'm not using any fields from the OpMgr area at all, only Cal, and Contact1. We have a consultant who has just sent us a report on our GoldMine installation ( I think he's still laughing!!!) and he recommends that I and a colleague attend an advanced Crystal reports course, so I think I'll wait for that. It should give me more understanding of the structure behind all this. Thanks for your help.

Goldmine is tricky because of the table structures. I know, because I use it. I just taught an advanced class in Michigan for a Goldmine reseller, and we spent quite a bit of time explaining the joins. If the instructor knows both CR and Goldmine, the class will help quite a bit. Ken Hamady

Pity I'm so far away. Just been looking at your web site and you sound just the kind of trainer I need. The training I have done so far was very rigid, not using my data and not bespoke to my needs. I have learned more through this forum than I did on a two day course. Thanks to everyone for their help and other postings that I have found useful.

I work with students by phone also, but I try not to discuss that in the forums. Contact me directly if you think it might help. Ken Hamady
