Hi,

I know that this is the most basic of basic (and common) question known to this world but I'm having trouble duplicating a movieclip so I can edit it seperately..

Basically, I have a few navigation buttons for a CD-ROM I'm designing and on the Over frame of the button I have a movie-clip that acts a bit like a fancy ToolTip (a coloured box with text explaining a few things before the user clicks it)..

I got the button to duplicate alright so I could edit them differently but no matter what I do, I can't duplicate the movie-clips..

I've checked out the help files and even searched this and various sites for answers but they all tell me to do what I've already tried - anyone got any other suggestions??

I've tried copying the symbol in the Library and dragging an instance of the new (duplicated) symbol on the stage, even duplicating the symbol using the Modify >> Duplicate Symbol menu command and nothing is working - whenever I edit the new movie-clip, all the others take on the same appearance. I just want to be able to have different text and colours for each one..

Cheers,

Paul @ basepoint designz..

Is it the button itself you can't edit, or the tool tip part?

Would be easier if you posted alink to a mockup .fla replicating the situation.
It should be zipped up and in MX only format.

Or you could e-mail it to me. Hit my handle above for e-mail, and use the second one.

Hi,

Cheers OldNewbie. I'll have to do that tomorrow now but in the meantime - no, the button duplicated perfectly so I can edit each one seperately but it's the tool-tip movie-clip inside that's the problem. Everytime I duplicate the mc and then drag an a instance of it into the Over frame of the button, then I edit it, the other tooltips movies on the other buttons take on the new look too..

Do you think it could be because I duplicated the Buttons when it had the movie-clip inside it, or wouldn't this make any difference?

Cheers,

Paul @ basepoint designz..
