I am desperately trying to place a long article that I have saved as rich text format many different ways, and each time Pagemaker refuses to place the file and gives me "Cannot place file, duplicate style name." What the hell is this? Help? :(

I think the easiest way to get around this is to place the RTF text into a brand new PM file. Check in the Story Editor what style it has attached to it, and see if it is a duplicate of a style in your existing document. If so, you will either have to rename the style, or simply strip out all the formatting, copy and paste it into your existing document and reapply the formatting.

An even better procedure to use that I have only become aware of: place your RTF in a brand new PM document, select all the text and click on the 'No Style' option in the Styles palette. Then copy and paste the text into your existing PM document. Formatting such as bold and italics will still come through, but there will be no style attached to the text; you can then apply your existing PM styles.
