I tried to duplicate a backup job which took 7 multiplexed tapes, one tape at a time using -id switch but it always take the first tape of the Backup. Here's the command line I've done:

bpduplicate -dstunit mtrlpqcm360-dlt-robot0 -v -L d:\logs\duplicate.log -dp Duplicate -s 02/16/2002 -e 02/16/2002 -cn 1 -M Mtrlpqcm360 -id DD0524 -mpx

It still takes the first tape of the backup set(DD0564).

I want to duplicate 3 tapes at the same time to accelerate the duplication time.

I'm using Verita NB datacenter 3.4.1 on Win NT 4 Sp6...

Not sure what you mean by:

"It still takes the first tape of the backup set(DD0564)."

Do you have a separate pool for the duplicate tapes? How about using the GUI and select Images, Duplicate rather than the long-winded command line?

Still may be an issue with trying to duplicate 3 tapes at a time, not sure if this is possible.

I've had this same problem with Netbackup 4.5. The techs I've talked to at Veritas both said that you can't simply copy a tape with Netbackup, you have to BUY the Vault software to add that functionality. Yes it sucks! The vault software is $12000! This is for four drives, if you want to add additional drives it's $2000 per drive. Well, we have 10 drives so the total cost of getting this going on all drives would be about $24000! This is GSA pricing so your mileage may vary.
I've looked around a bit using google, and have not seen one person who found a way to copy a tape using Netbackup (3.4 or 4.5) without Vault. We're probably going to buy it.
Hope this helps,

BFOJ:
What I meant is my backup job took 7 DLT tapes, the first 20 blocks went on tape DD0564... So when I start the duplication, it start with that tape event if I specify the 3rd one (DD0105)

Thanks. We're planning to migrate our current environments to 4.5 with the vault... but it wont be done soon...
