Hi all,

Anyone experienced this on an SBS 2008 network?

I'm installing SBS2008 for a customer that was previously running in a workgroup. Any time I add a new machine to the domain (via the connect wizard or manually) the system joins fine but once it boots the error "Duplicate name exists on the network" appears. You can ok this and then log in and go about you business but it'ss still annoying.

There are no duplicate names. This much I promise you. I've even tried renaming the machines to something random and still get the message.

If I remove the machine from the domain there's no error on boot. Rejoin the domain (with a new name or not) and suddenly you get the error again.

No idea what can be doing this.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do all those workstations have an additional unused NIC that isn't plugged in, but isn't disabled either? That could cause this.

Hi ShackDaddy.

The first one that I did, did have two. I'll have a test on this but the last PC I've done (just finished) has done the same thing and definately only has one NIC.

Thanks

What do the results for 'nbtstat -n' on an afflicted workstation look like?

Try configuring a client NOT to use WINS and see if it makes a difference.

Sorted!

One of the PC's on the network have the same name as the domain! That was why every new machine that went on the domain conficted because part of the FQDN was the same.

Mad as cheese.

Cheers for the replies ShackDaddy.
