I would like to duplicate a MAS200 server installation(4.1) to say “MAS43”/different name on a separate physical box/server. Two reasons – 1) to test the upgrade/walk-through from 4.1 to 4.3 and 2) to have a test/development server for training and testing MAS functionality separate from the “production server”.

Questions:
1) Can MAS200 security be moved from one server to another – or does security i.e. users and roles need to be recreated on the new server?
2) Do modifications from custom office like user defined fields, panel/screen tweaks carry over?

If you go to the Sage Knowledge Base the very first entry is how to Move MAS90/200 to a new server. A bit too much to be posted here but yes everything can be moved. I do it all the time when getting ready for an upgrade.

Ah,yes - I searched the Knowledgebase - wrong terms. Thank you.

Ok. I followed the instructions for moving. Error!
Re: Step 3. for MAS200 reinstall.

SY_workstation:pHYSICAL UPDATE WARNING: SY_Workstation - 642 of 653 records copied with 11 duplicate keys.

Then the installation hangs..."NOT RESPONDING"

Any suggestions?

Have you searched for that error message?

Try this:

Open Windows TaskManager and stop all occurences of the following processes if they are running.

1. MASsetup
2. Pvxcom
3. Pvxwin32

Start the Installation Again.

That is actually a pretty common error message. Have gotten it a few times myself.

Question:
"We are moving MAS90 to a new server and when we tried to install 4.1 on the new server we got the following:

prepare failed with the following error:
error updating sy_workstation: physical update warning: sy_workstation - 172 of 180 records copied with 8 duplicate keys."

Answer:
Reboot the server.
Rename the sy_workstation file (MAS_SYSTEM).
It will be recreated on your next attempt.

Actually this was covered in pre-release training for resellers. This was also discussed and documented in sessions at the Sage Summit.
