Hello,

One of my servers currently has a static ip address assignment of 101. Something in the network is also picking up that ip. Unfortunately it doesnt seem to have an associted name with it. can anyone help me figure out which device is picking up the server ip address?

Take your server offline and do the following from a CMD prompt:

nslookup x.x.x.x

Does the name of the server give you a clue?

I'm not sure you can do this with equipment other than Cisco, but if you have a Core switch, ping the IP address while telnet into the core. Do a Show ARP to get the MAC address of that IP and tracert it through your switches until you find the port that it is plugged into.

You could also try a tracert to find the machine, when your server is offline. You can find the location of that machine that way.
Bye, busche
