I have a user who has his email forwarded to his "off site" account. I set it up by creating a custom recipient and then going to the mailbox (in exch admin) and changing the delivery of mail to be forwarded to the other address. He is complaining of rcving duplicate emails. I sent him one utilizing the relay and he got only one copy.
The dupes seem to be from distro lists within the site.
Anyone have any ideas?
thanks

Exchange Server is smart enough recognize duplicate email addresses.

However, once you created the Custom recipient you have a new and separate Exchange object.

Are both the users name and the custom recipient listed on the distribution list(s)? If that's the case then they will receive two copies because the mail was actually addressed to two different objects (mailboxes). One as an original that been forwarded and one addressed to the custom recipient.

Further, I don't think that you will get a tracking receipt for a forwarded email. I might be wrong.

Actually, that was the first thing that i checked. I wanted to make sure the other email admin didn't add it in the distro lists. Only the original mailbox is listed in the lists, not the Custom Recip.
I have tried deleting the Custom Recip, synching the servers and then recreating it and reestablishing the relay. No luck.
In order to rule out someone selecting both the Mailbox and Custom Recip, I have hidden the Custom Recip. Hopefully this fixes the problem.
If it doesn't work, I think I am down to running ISINTEG for corruption. I have to run it anyway for upgrading to SP4.

any other thoughts????

thanks
