I have Outlook 2000 (under Win 98) set up to 'Leave a copy of messages on server', since I use Web mail during the day, but I like to check my email in the evening and have a copy on my PC of most of the email I receive.

This was working fine until I had to re-format and re-install all apps, including Outlook. Now, everytime I receive messages, I get the same messages previously received, and continue to get all the messages until I delete them from the server in Webmail.

My ISP says the problem must be on my side. Any ideas?

Maybe I am just confused or am misreading your post but if you are using webmail during the day why do you have Outlook configured to leave the mail on the server. It seems to me that this setting in Outlook is what is causing your duplicate mail. joegz

On my home pc I am using Outlook, where I review and save email in the evening. Most of the time, though, I am at a client site and access email via Webmail. If I do not leave the mail on the server, it will not be available to me via Webmail, where I need it most. But, I really need the email saved for long periods of time, so I make sure I download all important email on my home pc.

This used to work fine - it would only bring down each email the first time. I thought that each email has some unique id that Outlook uses to compare with email on the server. Once I re-installed Outlook, this no longer happens and I get all of the email on the server everytime I download email.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
