We are using exchange for internal messaging but each user has Internet mail accounts setup in their Outlook for external e-mails. The problem is when a user sends a message to and external recipient and carbon copies in a internal recipient.....the external recipient gets 2 copies of the e-mail. Any suggestions?

Outlook is sending the email out through exchange AND internet email. You need to make sure that it only goes out through Exchange.

How can I make sure it only goes out through Exchange?

Why don't you use Exchange for both? Security. We made an attempt at the same thing, but it ended up causing more trouble than helping so we moved back to Exchange. A mixed setup is a pain. One thing you can try is to have it only check for mail on one or the other. That is in Outlook under Mail Services. Otherwise you may have to look in Exchange and try to block MAPI from outbound access. Good Luck.

To ensure it only goes out through exchange is as easy as removing the smtp line in internet email. Then you still get incoming from the pop server and outbound via Exchange...
