duplicate clip on motion guide.

Alright maybe I'm thinking of the wrong terminology....
The idea I have here is that I have a motion clip. of sparks that I can move along a motion guide. Now in order for it to look like a lot of sparks I can create multiple layers in the original movie clip. But what I'd rather do is create an original. And start the clip on the frame in choice in the x,y coordinates of the motion guide.....
I guess in my own mind it would be like creating an irrelevent image on the motion guide and get it's info while animating then paste a movie on top of it while in motion There for creating the effect of a motion guided multiple movie clip.
The whole thing here is that I have plenty of examples of cutouts and flares and sparks and fuses. Now I'm trying to put them together ( so to say ) and I'm having a difficult time at best. I'm still pretty novice when it comes down to the actual coding of a flash movie. I understand the concepts and can follow along with the action script reference help. I just need an intuitive being to realize what I'm trying to do and give me the floorplans to work on. Rather a complete set of floor plans.
Flash planet seemed to help a little......
Any other sources?
Any ideas on how to get this off the ground?
