Is there a way you can PUSH a quicksetting on a duplexing printer via print server?

ex. HP2200DN printer, I customized a printer preference to do double sided printing. I want that setting on the print server to be pushed ot all clients when the connect to the printer for the first time (via add printer) and/or current printer already set to that client.

thanks
Brett

If the setting is saved in the printers configuration on the print server under printing preferences, it should be used by the clients as long as they use the print server for the print queue. So when the client add's the printer, it should be added as a network printer & not a local printer, via a tcp port.

I did what you stated (before you even wrote your entry) It didn't take.... : (

Are the clients running the same OS as the print server or an earlier version of Windows or are you using Linux?

That is strange. Our print server is Win 2003 & clients are mostly XP. I thought they were getting the settings ok, but I will have to check on this. Not back in work until next week now, but I will have a look when I have a spare minute & post back.

will do......I look forward to hearing from you then

I know I sometimes change the setting in the wrong spot on the server and then they do not get pushed as defaults when people connect. Below is the proper place the make the changes

To set printing defaults

1. Open Printers and Faxes.

2. Right-click the printer for which you want to set the default printing preferences, and then click Properties.

3. On the Advanced tab, click Printing Defaults.

4. Click the Layout and Paper/Quality tabs and the Advanced button to see the available choices, and specify the new default settings.

Notes

• To open Printers and Faxes, click Start, and then click Printers and Faxes.

• The preferences you set become the default settings for any user who connects to the printer. These preferences include the page orientation, the tray from which paper is fed to the printer, and the number of copies printed. Individual users can customize these settings by right-clicking the printer in Printers and Faxes, and then clicking Printing Preferences.

• You can also open printer properties in Printers and Faxes by clicking a printer, and then clicking Set printer properties under Tasks on the left side of the window. This option is available only if folders are set to look like a Web page and a printer is selected. For more information, click Related Topics.
