Duplex error on HP 4050

We have been getting a lot of error 13.10 18 "DUPLEX TURN AROUND, PAPER LATE JAM" errors on a Laserjet 4050. Printer has a page count of 95,000 and much of this goes thru the duplexer.

Printer works fine in single sided mode, so is definitely the duplexer unit. Anyone had experience with this error?

Not this error, but usualy when you're getting a "paper late jam" it's because the thing that pulls the paper into the duplexor is worn out and needs to be replaced. Jennifer Sigman

It is most probably a faulty swing arm in the duplexer that is worn out causing the jams. After march 2000, HP changed the design of the swing arm to prevent the jams in the duplexer. You should contact your local HP support to get details if there might be an issue with the duplexer model you have.

I replaced the toner cartridge and things have been much better. I will keep an eye on it and let you know how things are going.

Our purchasing dept has started buying refilled toner cartridges and I am a little leery of them. Some of my users have been complaining about them squeaking and making funny noises.

I was a little suspicious of that in this case, even thought it doesn't seem like it should be related. We have never had a spec of trouble with this printer until we started using the refilled cartridges.

Refilled toner catridges can be bad things. I know at my former job we replaced them more often than original ones, because they leaked, ran out, or did other craziness. So you may be right. Jennifer Sigman

Tell you purchasing dept to save money somewhere else. Refilled carts are a major problem. You will have problems with them, they leak, smudge, streak, cause dogs to sleep with cats,... =============
