Hi.

Whenever I create a duotone image using two Pantone colours, (for example a yellow, and a blue) I can never choose say, pure Pantone yellow or pure Pantone blue, as a brush/tool/selection colour.

Photoshop colour palette only allows me to choose tones that would appear if both colours were mixed (ie. greenish tones, 0-100%).

When I look at my channels there is only one (composite?) channel called duotone. Shouldn't there be a channel for each Pantone colour?

Basically, I just want to be able to use solid blocks of either given Pantone when I'm working in a Duotone file.

Any ideas??? Or am I missing something completely?

By the way, I'm using Photoshop 4, if that helps.

Duotone images are only grayscale images with a few color curves thrown in. If an image has 50% gray, Photoshop looks up the ink curves, and adds up the various inks at that point. To get separate channels, you need 'Multichannel' mode, and you have to add new spot channels. I can't remember if PS 4 does this...

If you are looking for that effect (solid or tint of color) behind your image then in a program like Quark or Indisign place a block of color behind your H/T and overprint the H/T.

No, I actually just want to be able to access two pure colour, any tints of those individual colours and any tones which are possible by mixing both colours in various percentages.

Any ideas???

How do you allocate colours to each channel, once in Multi-channel mode. At the moment, the channels are named #1 and #2.

Am I missing something here, I've never actually worked in multi-channel mode.

Also, I can't select DCS 2, when saving.

This is in Photoshop 6.

Once you have your two channels.
double click (mac) on one you want to change.
"Spot Channel Options" window pops up, from there double click on the colour window thingy, which will let you select you colours.

Once you have done all that "save as" Photoshop DCS 2.
making sure you have the spot colour tick box ticked.
then in the next window select
under DCS...
DCS single file no composite...
