looking to replace an failing older Powerbook g4, have an opportunity to purchase a new 17in MacBookPro with the Intel DuoCore for about $700.00/USD less then the Intel DuoCore2 model with all the same bells and whistles.

For a user who only does word processing, surfing and minor IPhoto stuff would the difference in speed be that noticable?

No. You'll be just fine.

Just make sure you're buying from a reputable dealer or Apple. I assume you're buying a leftover so that's fine as it will come with the warranty.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

thanks jmgalvin
this purchase would be through our company employee purchase program and the hardware is available through several distribution points throughout the country,
brand new, overstocked item with full warranty via Apple too, so no worries
