Hey there

I'm considering dumping all data to be backed up, to an array local to the backup server. Is there a feature of ArcServe that can do this, utilizing the open file agent?

My considerations are a shrinking backup window and increasing data sizes. I'm thinking that dumping to a local array is going to be way faster than the thruput of the agents, and backing up from a local source would also be way faster and give me the whole day to do the backup.

Cheers
Si

What version of Arcserve?

Arcserve 2000 and Arcserve 9 (for Windows) have the ability to create a "file system" device, which would allow you to backup to a directory. Within that directory .ctf files will be created which using the tapecopy command could be copied to tape at a later time.

The server you want to do this on will need the FULL Arcserve product installed, not JUST the agents.

It's ArcServe 9 running on a NetWare 6.0 server. The agents are running on a mix of NetWare 6 & 5, W2K and Linux servers.
