I want to initiate a dump on an IBM B50, running AIX 4.3.3 (maintenance level 9 w/ patches). How can I do this (or instruct someone) without physically being at the server? Our pharmacy application hangs randomly and I want to find the cause versus simply re-booting the server, which seems to clear up the problem for awhile.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
Who is going to fix the problem. Forcing the dump of the application - IBM is not going to look at it. It is not a IBM code and application problem. Try looking at the memory usage when the application hangs.

hi,

when your server hangs , does it reboot itself or do you have to reboot it yourself?

can you login on the console ?

what is displayed on lcd if anything ?

anything listed in errpt -a | pg

If your system crashes , it should produce a dump for you
in /var/adm/crash , check if it exists , and if you lnow how to debug it using crash , do so or send dump to IBM

also check if the application runs on the console if so
and is only affecting the remote users , it could be a network problem .

just a few thoughts ?

if you can answer some of the questions posted in this thread, then we may able to assist you further.
