Dummy extension for call handling/forwarding?

Has anyone ever had the need to set up a non-existant extension for the purpose of call forwarding?

The idea is that we set up an extension set on the bcm, with no wiring or handset and assign ringing lines. When we want to do a ad-hoc call forward of those lines we go into the bcm and setup the forward.

Is the BCM going to know there is nothing connected to the setup?

There may be multiple and better ways of setting this up but there is no existing extension with this particular combination of lines to call forward from and I am looking for a quick and effective fix.

All comments appreciated.

Yes, the BCM will know there is no set attached. Put a dummy in a closet, program the lines and use line redirection.

Thanks for that. Will probably just buy a softphone license and do it on a pc. That way we can also use the call log to assess missed calls and change the setup by remote desktop if we need to.
