I'm not sure what this Dummy.exe file is so I wanted to check before I deleted it. It is in my startup folder but there was no process by that name running when I checked. Should I delete this file or are there other steps that need to be taken or is it something I need?

You can submit it to an online scan of multiple scanners here:

You could RIGHT click on it, click properties, and see if that gives you any clues about it.

It's 10 O'Clock ( somewhere! ).
Are your registry and data backed up?

I clicked on this link but the page came up saying no results found. I also searche for Dummy.exe but nothing came up. What exactly did it say to do to remove this virus? Should I just delete the file from the start up folder?

***when i searched for dummy.exe it came up with a virus***
3 things to do,
1. Run Spybot Search and Destroy - found on 2. Update virus defintions if you have a virus scanner, if not there is an online virus scanner previously listed in this thread.
3. Run a program called Hijack this! google search that one. After that paste the log that you get into this thread and I will tell you what to delete. Search and Destroy first though. Hijack will be easier to read if some of the compnenets are already gone.

I searched as well. And it comes up with a virus.
From a year ago.
There's no mention of dummy.exe within the writeup on the virus, but rather "dummies.exe."

Just because a search engine brings in a hit doesn't mean it's right on.

Quick question, have you installed any kind of Visual Basic programs like VB Runtime? Search your ADD/REMOVE programs.

Not that I know of. This file was actually on the computer before it was mine so I'm not exactly sure how it got there.

There is a file called dummy.exe that sets itself up in the C:/ Directory when installing VB Runtime 5.0 it is useless after it is installed. Furthermore, if it is a virus or spyware, it should probably be running on your system. See if it under startup or in regedit under hkey local machine software- microsoft- windows -current version -run. This registry folder is where viruses and spyware like to install their startup executable. I you dont feel comfortable deleting reg. keys, spybot/adaware does it for you.
