I see a trend in my studying, and want to know if it's correct, or if there are exceptions. Generally, it looks like when you configuring an interface, you use the IP address and the mask. When you're configuring a routing protocol like OSPF, and you use a "network" statement or command, you're using the IP net address and the wildcard mask instead of the mask. Are there exceptions?

Thanks.

BGP you will use the actual mask and not not a wildcard. EIGRP, BGP, and RIP you don't HAVE to use wildcards/masks at all (in the case of RIP you can't) as you can just specify the network by itself.

I hate all Uppercase... I don't want my groups to seem angry at me all the time! =)

There are only four places in IOS you use wildcards:
1. network statements under ospf
2. network statements under eigrp
3. access-lists
4. distance command

All other places use network masks.

That helps me sort it out. Thanks.
