I am trying to set up a RedHat 8.0 Linux server with sendmail 8.12.8 to replace our AIX server that we are now using with sendmail 8.9 on it.

I have it pretty well set up, can send and receive mail internally but when the mail comes from the new server it always has a duplicate domain listed in the "from" filed IE

tmpinet@foo.com.foo.com when it should read tmpinet@foo.com

I have tried masquerading on and off

I have the host name set as tmpinet.foo.com but that is exactly how the other server is set up (inet.foo.com) and that works correctly

In your sendmail.cf insert this

Djfoo.com

give it a try it might work.

What resolver options are set in your sendmail.cf? (normally, resolver sould not add domain suffix to the name that already has a dot in it, but...)

Thanks guys, it seems that I fixed it but not sure how (I hate that)

Right now I can send mail from the new server just fine but can not receive it unless it is addressed with the full address that includes the server name

example tester2@foo.com does not go through from anywhere
tester2@server1.foo.com will go through(tester2 gets his mail)

We are still running our "real" mailserver and I have put server1.foo.com in as a MX record in our DNS and I can telnet on port 25 to the new server
