I have a Novell 6.5 server with dual Xeon processors. Whenever I down the server, Novell reports 3 processors ( processor 1, 2 , & 3). Is this normal? Shouldn't there be 4? How do I verify that Novell is using both processors correctly? Recently , the server crashed & I'm investigating.

i beleive this is normal
i think the 3rd processor is the rib

if it's using hpyerthreading then when the screen saver goes on you will see 4 snakes - if off you will see two

also in monitor or through the browser ie you will see the processors and can see what each processor is doing

Actually, the 3rd processor is the hyperthreading in the 2nd physical CPU (shown as a virtual processor in Remote Manager).

It is normal, but don't think the sytsem will count 1, 2, 3. It counts 0, 1, 2, 3. You never see processor 0 shutdown cause you need somthing to run the kernel as the system goes down. Check remote manager, you will see all four starting from 0
