to be able use both SEAs at the same time (as opposed to SEA failover where one SEA is backup/stby) I preffere "common" SEA on each VIOS and on NIB on client side.

but how to hadle such NIB in case of VLAN tagging? is it feasible or only SEA failover is supported when trunk is enabled and vlans on SEA are created (mkvdev -vlan) on each VIOS?

Some time ago I read a ppt about ethernet virtualization and VLAN tagging. It was on Power6 and discussed SEA with NIB, SEA failover and IVE virtualization.

I don't have this powerpoint anymore, but as far as I remember you can't use VLAN tagging with SEA and NIB, the only way is with SEA failover (or with logical IVE ports, if your server has IVE adapters).

thx. someone wrote that it would be feasible configuring second virtual switch on phyp.

but maybe it would also be working with one internal/virtual switch and common SEAs with trunked virtual ents, when each virtual ent on a client lpar is tagged as well and "smitty vlan" is used for vlan ents creation on each vent on client lpar - we would get two vlan ent for each external vlan - one going through sea/vios1 and the other through sea/vios2 - and finally creating NIB of them... of course if feasible (if not restrictions are met on the way)...
