I had an old HP netserver with 1 processor and installed Fedora core 4 on it. Recently I came across some hardware and I was able to add a second Processor and VRM chip. The bios shows 2 processors, although I'm not sure the OS is utilizing them both.

My questions is since I installed linux with only 1 processor, do I have to change something or reinstall to pick up the second? The kernel does support smp. Or is there a way to verify both processors are being used?

Thanks,

Bill

you have to install a smp kernel.

once you have installed it (no need to remove the previous one) it should boot by default with the new kernel. If it doesn't you need to change grub.conf.

to verify if your system is using both processors after reboot with new kernel

cat /proc/cpuinfo

If I could have sex each time I reboot my server, I would definitely prefer Windoz over Linux!

I upgraded the kernel (first time) with relatively few problems. It's listing both CPU's now.

Thanks for your help,

Bill
