Just a need a little handholding here since it's my first stab at this. Ggotta install a pair of dual PRI cards with a D-channel daughterboard for some point-to-point T1’s on the switch. So far they’ve only ordered 1 T1 from the carrier, but they want both cards in.

Setting the DIP switches seems self-explanatory, accept the defaults per documentation if we’re going with ESF/B8ZS… until we get to the daughterboard:

I’m thinking of going with an MSDL of 5 (looking at my ADAN table, I only have DNUM's 0, 5 and 11 (picking 5)), so S3 should be set to: 1 on, 2 off, 3 on, 4 off, 5 off, 6 off, 7 off, 8 on – sound right?

D-Channel is just an arbitrary number so long as it’s not conflicting with anything else, right? Last D-channel I have is 19, so 20 should work right?

I have space in Loops 120, 121, 122, and 123 – so I’ll put the cards there. Gonna start with 120 since I just have the one T1 for now

For programming, I'm looking at:

LD 17, CHG, CEQU, MODE, PRI, TMDI NO, LCMT BS8, YALM FDL, TRSH 0, DTIC 120

LD 17, CHG, ADAN, NEW DCH, CTYP MSDL, DNUM 5… (am I missing anything here)

LD 16, NEW, RDB… yadda yadda…

LD 14, NEW 23… yadda yadda…

LD 96, DIS MSDL 5 ALL, ENL MSDL 5 FDL

LD 60, ENLL 120

For the 2nd T1 in the first card when telco puts it in, I’m going to use the same DNUM/MSDL and DCH, but add to the DLOP in LD 17 right?

When do I put the cards in – before or after I program? Or doesn’t matter so long as the MSDL switches are correct?

For the 2nd NT5D12 w/daughter card – I’ll have to use DNUM/MSDL either 0 or 11 right since it’s a separate D-channel card?

Thanks.

So the first d-channel will be on an MSDL card? Why not put them both on the MSDL card, out of ports? And yes the daughter board will be a different DNUM with port 0 and 1 configured. DNUM 0 is more than likely used already for the XSM. Don't put anything in the DTIC.

Are all of the pri going to belong to the same route? If so I would configure that now. If you don't you will have to take it all out of service when you do want to add it. I would also space tha cards in different network groups if you have the network space. That gives you some redundancy. If the second daughterboard is goint to be for you backup d then it will need to be configured now as well.

I'm using daughterboards for the D-channels... not using the MSDL cards on the PBX (why I dunno - this is what the customer ordered so...).

And yes, all PRI's will be on the same route - so thanks for the tip! Thought about redundancy, but this is for a backup tie line to another system across the state... plus the I/O panels for my other common equipment shelves are a bit hard to get to as I'm in cramped quarters, so I'm just going with what's easily accessible.

Dumb question... from the NIU to the CSU is wired straight through... from the CSU to the T1 card - is it straight through or do I need a T1 crossover cable (or just swap TX/RX pairs on the block)?

Thanks!
