Planning a power system 8203-E4A in SPT tool I see in P1-C7 the "Dual Port 1Gb Ethernet Daughter Card" (
Host Ethernet Adapter - HEA) by default.

In networking tab I see some internal VLAN configured for a planned LPARs. Is it necessary in all configuration cases?

Could anyone please tell me what for is that adapter and in which cases is not needed?

thank you in advance,!

btw. what i/o drawer should I chose to be able mount SAS drives in it? I see that in main unit I can mount SAS drives but only for one LPAR (buy slots in 8203-E4A seems to be designed for one LPAR only)

Hi

Check out redp-4340-00 "Integrated Virtual Ethernet Adapter - Technical Overview and Introduction". Seems to be more commonly referred to as the Host Ethernet Adapter (HEA)

The HEA is required in all Power 6 System P configurations.

Choices are 2-port 1Gb, 4-port 1Gb, 2-port 10Gb.

Effectively provides an ethernet switch for multiple LPARs to share a single physical port.

If you want to use a physical port in promiscuous mode (for VIOS) then that port is dedicated to the VIO partition.
