Ok, I've partition my hard drive and installed XP pro on my XP home system. Problem is I did not set up a dual boot. Now, I can only access XP pro not XP home (of course) I have files that I need to access on XP home. Is there anyway to access XP home?

maani26,

If it is still there and it is your data files that you want, you should be able to see the "Home" partition and your files. You could then copy them or do what you want with them.

If you cannot see this original partition I would trace back the exact steps that you took and selections you made with the new install to see if there is something that you did that removed them.

Try hitting F8 key during startup. This would bring up the OS Selection Menu.

Can you explain this further as to what you actually did?

If you upgraded Home to Pro your data will still be available.

If you installed Pro into a second partition, separate from the partition containing Home, then indeed you should have a boot option (Dual Boot) to choose an operating system to load.

In either case you may need to look at access permissions.

HOW TO: Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP (Q308421)

If format was used on the Home partition, and you have not made any backups, then Data Recovery may well be your only option and that is a bit hit or miss.

Last two, are free to try, with size of 64kb limitations on files, unless you fork out some cash.
