Dual NICs - No internet connectivity

I posted a problem about Windows Deployment Services resulting in loss of internet connectivity before. After posting I decided to try the same thing in VMware. I installed W2k2003 in a similar setup, except I used only one NIC. I installed all the roles plus WDS and it works normally.

I went to the "physical" server and pinged DNS worked but no traffic. I disconnected the LAN cable and the ping resulted in "Hardware Error".

Why is the server trying to connect to WAN through my LAN? I have configured RRAS to use the WAN NIC for Internet and the other for "Private Network".
