Hello all

I have recently purchased a dell 2950 server that has two network cards installed in it. currently I am using just the one network card with a static ip address. I would like to bring the other card online but I am unsure of how to configure this card to work properly on the network. I would like the second card to assist the first card on network request. any help is appreciated.......THANKS

While I do not reccomend it, it is possible to buy NIC teaming software for the computer and buy a switch which allows Link Aggrigation.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

thanks for the info just so happens that the nic cards have teaming software with them bt I have decided not to use it for now

Why do you not recommend teaming, jimbopalmer?

Carlsberg don't run I.T departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.

The cost of a gig card is usually far less than the cost of the time spent getting NIC teaming to work. The cost of a gigabit switch is usually less than the cost of a switch that features link aggrigation.

So for throughput, I do not reccomend it, but if you need redundancy (I have servers in my server room dual linked to a network in another building) it comes in handy.

Ah, I see where you are coming from now. A valid point indeed. Still, if you've already got a switch that supports it, and an older server with two or more cards, it can't hurt.

just an FYI the server that I wanted to do teaming on has dual gig nic cards in it. when I looked at the ammount of trafic to the single nic card there was no need for the second card by a long shot. I figured the second card was there and if i needed it, well how long does it take to configure a nic......Thanks
