I have a Radeon 9700 graphics card that allows for dual monitors. Under Control Panel>Display>Settings>Advanced>Displays I can see two buttons numbered one and two. Number One button is depressed and I can't get Number Two button to depress. How do I get the second monitor to show? It appears that there is a second monitor but doesn't work. I've checked my connections.

Did you click the 'Enabled' button for monitor 2 in the card's software?

If so, then it's possible that either the DVI-I-to-VGA adapter or monitor 2 is bad, or the card's software may need reinstalling.
If uninstalling and reinstalling the software does not work, then switch the monitors, i.e., connect monitor 1 to the DVI-I-to-VGA adapter, and the monitor 2 to the card's standard VGA connection.
If monitor 1 that's now connected to the DVI-I-to-VGA adapter does not work, then the adapter may be bad.
If monitor 2 that's now connected to the card's standard VGA connection does not work, then that monitor may be bad.

I've reinstalled the software. There isn't any Monitor 2. These are the configuration choices:

Monitor YPbPr

TV FPD

I don't know what the choices "YPbPr" and "FPD" are.

That's why I was attempting to configure with the one and two buttons under the monitor button.

Hmmm....
There should be 2 monitors shown in Display/Settings, and in Display/Settings/Advanced/Displays if 2 monitors are connected and everything is working correctly.

If you have 2 monitors connected, then do they both work when connected individually to the VGA connector?
If both work, then the either the DVI-I connector or the DVI-I-to-VGA adapter may be bad.

The DvI-I connector must be bad. If not, it's the video card. Thanks for the advice.

The connector is okay and the video card is okay. The problem was the monitor. For some odd reason it wouldn't work on my computer. I put another monitor on the card and now everything works. ski, that's for the help. Hope what I found out will help someone in the future.

Glad to hear that you fixed things, and thanks for posting back with the solution.
