Dual monitors with Radeon 9600 & Hydravision

I recently purchased an LCD monitor as a supplement to my CRT and a Radeon 9600 card, which supposedly supports dual monitors. The LCD is connected to the 9600 via a DVI cable.

When I turn both monitors on and boot, they both display properly during boot up until XP begins. Then the CRT looses its signal, and only the LCD displays. I have gone through the Hydravision software, and I recall checking dual-monitor operation somewhere. But I can't even relocate this option. I find the Hydravision documentation very confusing.

If someone is familiar with using Hydravision and/or the 9600 with dual monitors, please give me some guidance about what I am doing wrong. I am lost!

ok, I run a duel monitor set up. 2 CRTs, one connected via a DVI -> VGA convertor.

One thing to note, if you have put a password onto your machine to sign in with then one screen will go blank when you load up XP.

You need to make sure you have ATI drivers with the control panel which is the easiest thing to do. Basically load into XP, go to display settings and then the far right tab (at work at moment so this is coming from my head). There should be some options to activate the second monitor and to adjust it's resolution and position relative to the first one. In the advanced section there are a few more options to play with but it really is that simple.

Right click on the desktop, choose properties. Click the settings tab and you'll be able to see your monitors along with settings to extend desktop across them, etc. there's also an advanced button which will take you into a much greater number of options including 'displays' where you can turn on and off individual outputs and adjust their settings independantly.

Hi Carpetbelly and Norty303,

Your comments are very helpful, and I really appreciate them.

In fact, I do have an XP password because I need it to run the XP scheduler. I wonder how I can get around this obstacle.

Your ideas have given me some paths to pursue, whereas I was lost before. I may come back with some more questions if I can't resolve the problem.

Thanks,

Mike

Since starting this thread, I have made progress. At one point I had both monitors running, and I could move the cursor and apps back and forth between.

But then I installed UltraMon and now the cursor will not move to the second monitor. I tried everything and can't find a solution.

Anyone know exactly what controls this function?

Mike

again, don't install monitor drivers... XP is pretty good at autodetecting which ones to use.

Make sure you got the latest ATI drivers and in the properties section have got the 2nd monitor enabled and the tick box saying 'extend desktop onto 2nd monitor' (or something like that) ticked.

Should be better.
