How do you setup dual monitoring? Do you need two video cards, or are their single video cards with dual outs?
Simple question, this being "tek-tips" and all.
The first way is to throw two video cards into the computer, then in the bios you can select whether to use the pci or agp card as your primary display. But this way is sometimes troublesome as many people discover combinations of video cards that simply do not work together for a dual monitor display.
The other way is to buy a video card with two heads - each of the top 3 video card makers have dual monitor support in their chip lines. For where I work, I set up a dual monitor display over the summer using a Matrox G450 card, the drivers and software for this card work perfectly and will give you no hassles whatsoever. The matrox card can also be set up so that the second display can be s-video out or rca out, which is very nice.
ATI has their Radeon VE which supports dual monitors, and it's been a while since the card's release, so I'm positive ATI has gotten their drivers to work. And finally nVidia has dual monitor support in their MX line of video cards, which should work very well no matter which brand of manufacturer you buy.
i'm not sure about the Nvidia, but i'm pretty sure that the ATI won't work as true multimonitor in win2k, the matrox on the other hand works wonderfully (running a g400 myself) go to
