What is the most efficient way to add a second monitor to a pc? I thought adding a video card would was the way to go limiting extra resources from the cpu. But now I'm seeing these usb adapters that are way less expensive. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

Depends on what you want to do with the monitors. If you're just looking to add a 2nd display to increase screen real estate, USB video adapters are the cheapest and easiest solution. If you're planning to run any kind of graphical presentation or work with multimedia of any kind, then it's better to invest in a discrete graphics card instead.

Of course there is a chance that the video you have is capable of doing multi monitor. All Intel and AMD chips will do this from that last several years.
