Have a dimension E520 with one board graphics.
Installed a second card in PCIE slot in order to establish dual monitors.
Problem is that the onboard monitor gets disabled.
Only one graphics card shows up in device manager. The new card is displayed but the onboard is no longer there.
In the bios for graphics settings, it just has auto or pcie.
Of coarse, in display settings it does not show the usual 2 monitors since one card is no longer enabled.
Where should I go from here?

Try looking in BIOS and see if there's some setting to prevent disabling of the onboard card.

Its default behavior, but some BIOSes do have the option to keep it enabled. There's also a chance its a jumper setting somewhere on the mainboard. You'll need to reference your Motherbnoard's Manual, or PC owners guide to find that out.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

In the bios, there is only two settings for graphics: auto or pcie. pcie setting will enable to PCIe card if it exist and disable the onboard. Auto pretty much does the same thing. Selects the onboard unless there is a pcie card installed. I also upgraded the bios.

Why can't you run 2 monitors off of the card you added? What was the card you added?

Thank you. Did not realize that it was a dual monitor card.
It works well.
