Does C Drive have to be FAT16 to dual boot with 98SE? I have 98SE installed on a FAT32 drive. To dual boot with NT Server 4 what is the best thing to do? I have Partition Magic.
I forget what files have to reside on a C Drive for NT and for 98.
I guess I'll end up creating 3 partitions?
C Fat16 "Boot", D Fat32 "Win98", E NTFS "WinNT4"
I want to use FAT32 to conserve space with 98 and NTFS with NT.
This is on my notebook computer so adding a physical drive isn't really available.
If I'm thinking right about a boot partition (or drive I would guess ideally) what size does it need to be? I thought I read that the boot drve (C:) can be very small and often is a cheap small drive (in a normal desktop server.)
Thanks
John Durbin

ICQ VFP ActiveList #73897253

If you are starting from scratch with the Dual Boot configuration, you can use PartitionMagic/BootMagic and create two primary partitions, one for 98 and the other for NT and hide either one depending on which OS you boot. However, both partitions need to be within the 1024 cylinder limit of the drive to work correctly.

You could also create a small Primary FAT16 partition for the boot files (100-200mb) and create two other partitions, one for each OS and file system. Although it is somewhat of a security risk, I think having a FAT16 boot partition is very useful and presents more choices when it come to having to recover an OS if it crashes.

Doug
dxd_2000@yahoo.com
