Hi, I have Win2k pro running on my computer and want to create a dual boot with WinXP, do I simply boot from the XP disk and select an empty partition and that's it? I take the boot.ini would get updated automatically?

Andy

Simply stick winXP in and install it to the other partition. Simple as that. It will pick up the new OS and you will get a dual boot menu after it has been set up.

In my case I had to make sure that the primary partition was hidden and rendered inactive. This way, the Win2k would not recognize the primary partition, and would proceed to install the system files in the desired partition.

The difference in my case is that I had WinXP pre-installed on my laptop, so I had no choice but to intall Win2k next in sequence.

Did you have two primary partitions or one primary and one logical? Two primary partitions will need to be hidden/activated to dual boot.

In normal situation, there is one primary and the rest logicals, in which case you should be able to specify during setup which directory you want to install into.
