Good day ..

Installed Mandrake 7.2 on my Win2000 prof machine (at work) and my Win ME machine (at home). Now, when I boot up, I have the option of choosing Linux (default) or Windows on both machines.

I would like to set Windows as the default for both machines.

Does anyone know where this option is for both environments?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

With lilo there are two ways to set the default to M$. (i) Place the windows 'other' block above the linux 'image' block(s) in /etc/lilo.conf (Its probably at the bottom now). (ii) Insert a global line at the top of /etc/lilo.conf that points at the default. For example (example bits of /etc/lilo.conf) :

...
timeout = 600
default=Win2000 <-- same as the 'label=' value you want to use...
other = /dev/hda1
label = Win2000
image = /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.16
root = /dev/hda8
label = Linux
read-only

When you have changed the lilo.conf file you have to update the binary boot record based on that config by doing (as root) '/sbin/lilo -v' .

Regards
