Im trying to install a dual boot win2000 & winme. The idea is the security if win2000 and the gaming features of me. I have a PIII1ghz system. Motherboard, asus CUSL2, Video, Hercules geforce 2 pro, sound, creative labs sblive 5.1, networking, 3com nic, hd, maxtor 40gb, dvd, Toshiba. The problem is when i go threw the install and indicate that a clean install, it goes threw all the necessary steps. when if copies files to the drive i get the blue screen of death. it gives a log code and says that i have shadowing or caching on. after looking over my bios and making sure they both were disabled i still get the problem. the error also indicated that it is a hardware issue. To resolve this i took out all the components sound, nic, and usb. error still remains. I contacted the maxtor and they suggested that i do a low level format on the hd. After the low level format the error still shows. the bios on my motherboard is recent. all my cards and components are error free. i cannot figure this one out, if someone can help i would appreiciate it!

I would seriously consider using something like System Commander 2000. I am currently using this to run a 98/ME/2K setup, all of them hidden from each other. It is a stable setup, and the three OSes don't mess with each other. It fairly easy, although a little tedious, to setup but well worth it. Additionally, it generally prevents the other OSes from becoming unusable should one of them crash.

Thats not a bad suggestion, although in this particular case I think he is experiencing a known issue with ATA 66/100 systems with 2000. Thus the thread reference, but I am interested in System Commander, does it recognize OSes when it's installed or do you have to install the OSes in a particular order after SysCom is installed, ie: how did you do it? Like what would happen if you installed it to a system where you had say had Win2k installed on one partition, then installed win98 to a different partition or hdd, which overwrote the Win2K mbr with its own, leading to an lost win2k partition. Would it recognize the lost Win2k partition and could you boot to both then? That would be cool. I know if one did such a thing you could always just fdisk /mbr and get the Win2K part back, losing the win98 partition, but it would be kinda good to know what SysCom can do. Michael

I would like to say thanks. After reading all the posts in many forums, i found the answer. I purchased the motherboard about 5 months ago and updated the bios immediately. In the five months that passed the bios had 4 revs. After updating the bios the install went perfect. This is a great site good stuff here.

Again thanks

Having never tried system commander but having used partition magic's boot manager. With it you can at any time use it to check the system for OS's and it then allows them to be included in the boot option.
