Dual Boot W2K and NT with W2K alreaddy installed

I have Windows 2000 installed and now need to install Windows NT 4.0, to pick up some software that won't run under W2K.&nbsp;&nbsp;Any tips would be appreciated.&nbsp;&nbsp;I do not want to loose the finished and running load of W2K.<br>Thanks,

Yes, you will need a seperate partition for W2K and NT. Make sure the partition you will be using to install NT on is within the 1024 cylinder limit of the hard drive...i.e - 7.8gb. The primary boot partition can only be FAT16. NT does not support FAT32 and it does not work on the 2000 version of NTFS unless you upgrade it to SP4 or later.<br><br>Before actually installing NT, boot into W2K and create the Emergency Recovery Disk....you can do this by going to Start Menu/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Backup. Click the button to create the disk and make sure you select the option, when prompted, to save the registry. You may also want to back-up or copy and data that is absolutely critical to a safe location.<br><br>At this point you can shutdown and reboot into the NT4 setup. Go through all the motions of installing the OS. I would choose the folder name of the NT install to be WINNT4 to alleviate any confusion in the future. Once the install is complete make SURE you update NT to SP4 or later.<br><br>After that is said and done, you will need to boot the 2000 CD or install disks and choose repair / manual and select the boot sector option. This will put the 2000 files back in place.<br><br>Reboot to the hard drive and see what happens....you should get prompted with a menu of choices for 2000 or NT4. If you do not get a selection for NT4 you will need to modify the boot.ini file to include the ARC path to the NT4 installation.
