Hi all,
I have a dual boot Windows 7/Vista system with two separate hard drives in the machine, one for each operating system.

I originally used to use the Vista disk more, and that's where the majority of the data lives, but I now tend to boot into the Windows 7 drive more often than not.

What I would like to do is to have the data files on both disks and sync'ed. I'd like data file changes on one operating system to be automatically reflected on the other disk and vice versa. Can anybody suggest the best way to do this?

Many thanks in advance.
Marc

Point one of the Operating systems to the data folders in the other.

That is you can change the location of say the Documents folder to point to the other Hard Drive, that way if anything changes, it will change or both Operating systems.

Thanks for your suggestion Phil, but what I want to do is actually backup the data on both hard drives. I've got a number of photos and videos etc. which I want to ensure doesn't ever go missing. With two fairly big sized hard drives in the machine it seems to me that the easiest way would be to sync them in some fashion.

In that case maybe may help you.

Many thanks to Vacunita and linney for your excellent suggestions. I've gone with the Microsoft toy, mainly because linney's suggestion came through earlier and I've spent the lasthour or two syncing a varierty of folders and it appears to be just what I'm looking for. I can't see an option (yet) to make it happen automatically, but I'm not too fussed about that really, so am very happy with what functionality if provides.

Once again, thanks to both of you for your suggestions.

If you want an easy to use "auto" syncing program, I'd suggest looking at SyncBack. Has a free and paid version. I've only used the free version. And I REALLY like it. It's definitely better than SyncToy (my opinion - I've used both).

With SyncBack,

You can run the backup/sync on a schedule or even go as far as "when idle". The "when idle" seems to work really well in that you'd practically never have a time when your system isn't "up to date" between the syncs.

I've never heard of or tried .. I'll have to give it a try some time to see how it compares to SyncBank.
