I have recently been charged with rebuilding a network security utility laptop (which I get to play with once it is fixed) which must be set up dual-boot Red Hat 7.0 and Win 2k. I have set up a couple dual-boot desktops with no problem, but keep running into problems with the lap. I installed Win2k on a 4 gig FAT32 partition and then installed Red Hat with a boot of 64 and a root of 4 gig (drive is 40 gig). Win2k is ok, but Red Hat locks up at the end of install and the lap must be hard booted from that point. Side note, the partitions are as is to ensure that /boot resides within the first 8 gigs of HD since my bios only searches there for MBR.
On Boot I get option of Win2k and Linux, Win2k will boot properly but when I try to boot Linux I get some kind of partition size error and the machine reboots. On first boot after install, linux checked integrity of /. I will follow this note up with the error I get on failure when I am at work tomorrow but wanted to throw this out here for the late nite penguins.
Laptop is Dell Optiplex 8200 series PIII 850, 256mb ram with a 15" monitor which works at 1400 x 1000 (the 2^n equivelant of this at least) with 40 gig hd. (She's a beaut to be sure, thus my desire to get her off my desk and into my inventory). Thanks in advance.
