I have a DTS package to export data into Excel, i also need to open the Excel file in order to run a macro to do some formatting etc on the imported data. This needs to be done daily after the data has been imported. i have used an Execute Process task to open the Excel file, however it returns an "unable to open file" error.
If i create the Execute Process task as a sepearate package and then create another package to first run the export package and then run the 'open excel' package there is no problem, but that means having 3 packages and i would prefer to just have the 1 combined package.
It seems to me that at the end of the 'export' stage DTS is 'holding on' to the excel file and therefore it cannot be opened, does this make sense? and if this is what is happening is there any way round it?
Cheers, Craig
