DTS Step problem

I'm getting Error 2147467259 Invalid Argument. It is a workflow that takes data from an excel spreadsheet and puts it into the sql server. all the fields are copied except one that is created using active x. I only get this error if i try to run it from VB. if i right click and hit execute in SQL, it works with no errors. i have looked at the permissions, they looked ok...if it is permissions, what should i look for.
