DTS Pkg Designer Locks on Edit

I have several legacy DTS packages which I am managing through the Package Designer add-in with SQL Server Management Studio. I am able to edit Properties in these packages EXCEPT for the Properties of the main workflow step. Attempting to do so causes the Package Designer to lock up, with my having to end the app through Windows Task Manager.

I have been unable to find any reference to this issue or a workaround.

Any thoughts or ideas as to the cause or solution would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Mike,

What do you mean by 'Main Workflow Step'?

I'm feeling dumber than usual today :-(

Good Luck!

Alex

Hi, Alex. So you're feeling a bit Mike-ish? Arrr! Sorry to hear that. ;-)

I can edit the Connection Properties for the Source database and the Connection Properties for the Destination database, but I can't edit the Transform Data Task Properties. Data structure from the Source has changed and I need to change the mapping, but when I right click the Step and select Properties from the pop-up menu, the Package Designer locks up. I'm not having that problem with all DTS packages on that server, just a couple (critical, of course).

Make sense?

Yarr, that be bad news indeed!

I've never come across this problem before.

Ye might be needin to find a computer with that old dog Enterprise Manglarrrrrr still installed (and seaworthy as well, as mine sinks the second I leave the dock) and edit yarr package on thar (or at least copy the mapping information).

If the mapping is not terribly complex, ye might be better off to delete the step and build a new one. If it be complex as me treasure maps, ye'll find yourself in some rough seas, to be sure!

[small]you picked the wrong day to be sayin' arrrr in a post, matey![/small]

Hope this helps,

Alex

I only be shipping to RPSP (Reasonably Priced Sea Port), thank you very much! OPSP is what the east india company uses!

I've never seen this problem before, but I'll bet ten dubloons that it's something Cap'n Bill missed in the first release of the DTS components. What be yer service pack level?

On the client tools, not the servarrrrr!

If they be matching already, ye might be havin ta walk the plank or recreate your mapping.

And what service pack be they havin?

Could be an issue that were fixed in a later one. Of course, waitin for that yella dba to apply the service pack on yar server could be a fate worse'n davy jones locker!

Best o' luck on yer voyage, Matey!
