I'm having a problem with DTS packages on one of my servers not opening from Enterprise Mgr when on the server. But I can open the package from EM on my local PC?

When I try to open the package on the server I get an error message that says 'Access denied or server could not be found.' These packages are also scheduled as a job and they are failing with the same error. The DTS job also fails with the same error when I try to run just the package. Has anybody seen this before?

Some more info:
I've just read that from SQL 2000 sp2 on there have been changes made to DTS. We saved our packages from SQL7 sp4. Does anybody know if this could be causing our problem? Is there a know problem with moving a DTS package from SQL 7 sp4 to SQL 2000 SP3a?

There shouldn't be a problem, but that could be it. I would assume that it's a permissions problem. When you log into the SQL Server what account are you logging in with? Are you using your account, or the SQL Servers account?

If you are using your account on the server then it sounds like there is a firewall blocking the connection from your server to another server you are trying to connect to.

If you are using the SQL Server's account then there could still be a firewall issue, or it could be a permissions issue.

Thanks...We opened a case with Microsoft. We found the problem to be a TCP alias in the client network utility. For some reason it was not allowing DTS to connect back to the server using TCP. Once we deleted the alias everything worked fine.

That will do the trick then.
