I have a migrated sql2000 database from sql6.5 to sql7 to sql2000.

When I create a DTS package I can drag the Server connection and the Text output destination icons on to the screen. I then link the two together with a "Transform Data task". while working through this I select a table to output and can preview the data in the table. Selecting the Destination tab and click the "DEFINE COLUMNS" buttom it thinks for a couple of second and closes enterprise manager down and not saving the DTS Package.

Any advise?

Have you looked in the SQL Server error logs and the Windows Application event log for some possible clues. Not sure if DTS would write errors to these logs but we may get lucky.

Try creating another table, in the same DB, that is an exact schema match to the table you are trying to export data out to the text file. Of course the name will have to be different ... like test or something.

Try creating the same DTS package as you were before except instead of using the text file as the target use the new "test" table as the target.

Lets see what that produces.

Thanks
