I created a simple DTS package with 2 items: (1) a Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server connection and (2) an Execute SQL Task in which it executes a stored procedure to INSERT some items into a table.

When I try to link these 2 items together with a Workflow 'On Success' green arrow, I get the following error:
Defining precedences between the selected items is not valid.

I don't know why I'm getting this error. I was thinking this was a simple package to design, but can't seem to figure it out.

Can anyone please assist me?

You define precedence between tasks.
A connection isn't a task - it is used by tasks.

The executesql task will be using the connection and will fail if it can't connect.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy.

I see now - I don't have to connect these two items! I just have to place them in the Designer and they should work, and it does work!

Thanks.

In the executesql task there is a drop down list to select the connection.
